The GOP is Coming to Town

From Openers

The Republican National Committee announced today that it will visit Cleveland in August to size up the city's hotels, arena and convention facilities and leadership's support for hosting the 2008 Republican convention.

Cleveland was one of four cities to bid for the convention. Because so few cities showed interest in hosting the event, which requires thousands of hotel rooms and millions of dollars of local money, the committee decided to visit all four. The committee will pick a site early next year.
