This isn't for a Congressional campaign. Ted will have no coal mines in his non-existent district next year. And he won't sit on any committees, either.

So they can't possibly be protecting their interests, unless you're trying to argue that they think Ted's going to suddenly push a bunch of stuff through Congress for them in a few months while he's busy campaigning for another office.
