Gov. Mike Huckabee Wanted Scholarships for Illegal Immigrants
I doubt Chuck Norris would approve.
Also, for more about why conservatives should be nervous about Huckabee, check out this article from The Economist. From foolish rhetoric about “price gouging”, class warfare, and protectionism, Huck frequently sounds more like a Democrat. And he certainly has strong enough support in many Protestant circle to possibly split the vote and give the nomination to pro-abortion Rudy Giuliani. He also gets the far-left Mother Jones crowd excited.
And make sure to read Bob Novak’s column from today about why Mike Huckabee is a “false conservative.”
While I’m not for such kinds of scholarships, I do find Huckabee’s support of them to be insignificant when you look at the hypocrisy of other candidates on the larger immigration issue. For example, from factcheck.org….
Mitt Romney casts himself as tough on illegal immigration in a new ad in which he says that, as Massachusetts governor, “I authorized the State Police to enforce immigration laws.” He doesn’t mention that his order never took effect. It came in the closing days of his administration and was rescinded by his successor, as we wrote back in August.
He also promises, “As president, I’ll . . . cut funding for sanctuary cities.” Maybe so, but as governor he took no action against several such towns in his state.
We find Romney misleading on both counts.
Here’s a prediction: Repubs will talk tough about illegal immigrants on the campaign trail but they realize what side their bread is buttered on when it’s time to govern. The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board, Karl Rove and U.S. Chamber of Commerce love a huge supply of mostly cheap labor whose members don’t have the right to vote. Call ‘em illegals or call ‘em peasants but the Big Money Boys will never kick them out or stop them from flowing in.
The he border fences will serve to keep em in, not keep em out. Mark my words.
