Bob Latta Bears False Witness Against Steve Buehrer Via a Misleading Mailer
It is a shame when campaigns resort to flat-out lying when trying to win. While Bob Latta is busy filing an election complaint against The Club for Growth for claiming that Latta’s support of a ballot issue for a $1 billion tax increase for schools should be considered as evidence of … gasp!… Latta’s support of a $1 billion tax increase, Latta is also spreading lies about Steve Buehrer’s opinions of the 10 Commandments, which, as you may have heard, were written by God, given to Moses on Mount Sinai, and helped form the basis of our legal system.

I had the honor of meeting Steve Buehrer during the Ken Blackwell campaign bus tour, and nothing about him would make me think that he is some sort of anti-10 Commandments, anti-prayer-in-school, liberal. And that is because he is nothing of the sort.
I called the Buehrer campaign yesterday for comment, and I was told that Steve Buehrer made a mistake when filling out this questionnaire, or Project Vote-Smart made a mistake when they posted it.
So after hearing that, I first wondered if this was some sort of Jim Petro-like conversion of convenience. But, after a quick glance at State Senator Steve Buehrer’s record, it is clear that Steve is more of a Christian conservative than liberal Bob Latta could ever hope to be!
Here is the evidence for you to consider:
First, Steve Buehrer was honored by the Christian Coalition in 2003 for a bill that he sponsored to “confirm the 10 commandments as the moral underpinning of the state government of Ohio.“:

Also, in the Bryan Times, Steve Buehrer wrote a column condemning the liberal 9th circus Circuit Court of Appeals after they ruled that “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance was unconstitutional:

And also, Steve Buehrer spoke out in an op-ed in 2000, when Ohio’s state motto, “With God, all things are possible” was under attack by secular forces:

I suppose that, with such a short election season (a month), Latta knows that it is difficult for the record to be set straight after launching such attacks. And clearly, Birthright Bob Latta, as the establishment candidate, is doing his best to distract from his support of Bob Taft’s and Larry Housholder’s MASSIVE tax increases, which certainly contributed to why Ohio now ranks 46th in the Tax Foundation’s rankings of state business tax climates.
It is becoming obvious to even the most casual observer that, in the race between Latta and Buehrer, Bob Latta is not the type of principled conservative that Steve Buehrer is. And it is now clear that Latta will stoop to any level and LIE in hopes of winning.
As Justice Brandeis once said, sunlight is the best disinfectant. And all it takes to beat tax raising scum like Bob Latta is to shine the flashlight of truth on him and his deceptive campaign.
Latta did bear false witness against his opposition, but he hardly seems ready to repent… Which should tell you all you need to know about Bob Latta’s relationship with God.
Your hypocrisy is breath-taking. First you call Latta pro-choice, a deliberate smear. He is much more antiabortion Buehrer will ever be.
Next you say Latta has no right to call a lie a lie. But when Latta points out a truth about an opponent, that truth becomes a lie. Some how.
You are a Democrat, sir. You must be. Or a socialist. I have seen bloggers without a firm grasp of the truth, but they have always been left-leaning.
Latta supported a bill that would raise one tax $1 billion while lowering another tax. Somehow that translates to supporting a $1 billion tax increase. It is a lie and you know it is. But calling a lie a lie in your mind is a lie. Some how.
Buehrer is against posting the 10 Commandments. Somehow pointing out that Buehrer is against posting the 10 Commandments is a lie. Some how. You never really explain how a truth is a lie, but I’m sure you’ll get to it.
“breath-taking hypocrisy” ?
Such a drama queen you are, Moe.
Naugs presented the evidence. Buehrer introduced legislation to defend the 10 commandments on public property, a resolution confirming the signifance of the 10 commandment to our culture, and even the state motto.
Can’t wait to see how Buehrer responds to this…
Thanks Johnny- I’m one of those curmudgeon conservatives who doesn’t really care much for silly state house resolutions, but I dislike hypocrisy and lies even more.
In Ohio, the most Christian thing a legislator can do is to cut taxes and improve Ohio’s awful business climate… so a man can find a job and provide for his family. And if this is the criteria, then Latta is quite a sinner.
More than anything this is revealing a complete desperation on part of Team Latta. They know they are in over their heads and Buehrer is closing the gap with almost three weeks ago. The FEC deadline is today. Let’s see who really has money to wage a campaign in the final two plus weeks. I have a feeling Latta has next to nothing in the bank to compete against Buehrer and Club for Growth.
I can’t wait to find out- I have some friends in the district, and I’ve heard that they have been sent many more pieces of literature from Latta than from Buehrer.
But this is why The Club for Growth is so important and deserve our support. With campaign finance limits, some principled conservative can’t get enough special interests together to quickly fund a campaign. The Club for Growth changes the came by coming into a district, smashing heads, and fighting tooth and nail for free market principles. I’d give to The Club long before I’d send a nickel to the Ohio GOP, RNC, et cetera… If anything, for conservatives, giving to The Club is more “bang for your buck”… because your money doesn’t go to help squishes.
“moe” said “[Latta] is much more antiabortion Buehrer will ever be.”
If you think Latta can be truly pro-life when he voted to mandate vaccines that came from aborted babies, then I take it you are for using fetal stem cell research, right? And you’d think it ok if Latta came out in support of it as well?
It is interesting to note that Latta did not join in co-sponsoring the resolution on the Ten Commandments. He had the chance. Using his own logic then he must also be agaisnt the 10 commandments.
