From the Blade

BOWLING GREEN — State Rep. Bob Latta (R., Bowling Green) yesterday won by a large margin the 5th District congressional seat that he lost by 27 votes almost 20 years ago.

With all precincts in the 16 counties that make up the sprawling district reporting, Mr. Latta beat Robin Weirauch of Napoleon 56.8 per cent to 42.9 percent to replace the late U.S. Rep. Paul Gillmor (R., Tiffin), who died Sept. 5 of an accidental fall in his Virginia residence. Mr. Gillmor had represented the district since 1989.

Mr. Latta won in each of the counties that make up the district, which extends from the Indiana border to northeast Ohio.

A very comforting margin of victory. I was nervous. Looks like atleast the 2006 bleeding has been stopped.

I’m suprised that Latta won by such a large margin; for a week and a half or so before the election I thought it would be a two to four point race.

It’s never good when the NRCC has to dump money into the race, but the Dems used alot of resources for this race, and they used many deceitful campaign tactics, such as the robocalls from a puported conservative group asking voters to write in Steve Buehrer. Obviously, Strickland and Brown don’t carry as much weight as the Dems thought they did, which shows me that things are turning around from 2006.

Congressman Latta has a nice ring to it.

    Viking,

Ever stop to think if the primary wasn’t so bad, Latta would have had money to spare? That is why the NRCC dumped money in. Latta had none because of the primary.

So are the democrats going to claim a “moral vicory” or even “victory”, like some did in the special election in D-2 in 2005.

Bob, that’s a fair point, but I still don’t think it’s a good thing when the NRCC has to dump a significant chunk of cash into a race given the financial state they are in right now.

    Second verse:

    They were yearnin’
    Bandwidth they were burnin’
Aw, the good times they thought they were returnin’
    But way, way, down inside
    They really knew
They wouldn’t get enough votes, awww,
They wouldn’t get enough votes, awww,
Not with the help of the gov.
And not with Sherrod Brown’s love.
    Or Howard Dean from above.
    Voters gave Robin the shove.
