Hey Chris Redfern & Randy Borntrager! Give me a Call Sometime

This press release from the Ohio Democrat Party is really lame. They are trying to attack Mitt Romney, but clearly don’t know how best to go after him.

If Redfern really wanted to take a shot at Romney, he should have proudly endorsed the Mitt Romney of 2002 for his unwavering support of gay marriage, abortion, campaign finance restrictions, and his dislike of Ronald Reagan. Instead, the “Fern” came off as sounding lame and uninspired. He and his spokesman should give me a call sometime for some better beat-up-on-Romney pointers.

For the record, Romney has never supported gay marriage. Also for the record, Romney vetoed every pro-abortion bill sent to him by the Massachusetts legislature during his term as governor.

Actually, after the state supreme court ruled on gay marriage, instead of simply turning the issue back to the legislature, he started to issue marriage licenses for homosexuals. He went out of his way to support gay marriage, and did more than the legal ruling required him, as Governor, to do.

Romney fought that decision as much as possible, but he didn’t take the Roy Moore route (as those who make Matthew’s claim wish he had). He refused to allow non-residents to apply for marriage licenses and also pushed for an amendment to the Mass. constitution.

Romney is also the only top tier GOP presidential candidate who supports a Federal Marriage Amendment.

In a letter dated April 11, 2006, Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney, a Republican, has asked the State Senate’s Joint Committee on the Judiciary to expedite the consideration of an amendment to the state constitution defining marriage as strictly between a man and a woman.

The letter follows up on the successful petition drive in Massachusetts to amend what Romney describes in his letter as “the oldest functioning written constitution in the world.”

“You now have before you an amendment from the people, written by the people, duly presented with the people’s signatures, according to the procedures set forth in the Constitution of the Commonwealth…”

The salvo is the latest fired by Romney in an attempt to legislate around “Hillary Goodridge & others vs. Department of Public Health,” the landmark case decided by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court in 2003.

Explain to me again why supporting equal rights for all people is a bad thing…
