AG Marc Dann Refuses to Apologize for Bigoted Comments
From the Dayton Daily News:
COLUMBUS — The Ohio Republican Party and Ohio Christian Alliance are calling on Attorney General
Marc Dann to publicly apologize for an insensitive e-mail he sent to a staff member on Good Friday.
A story in Sunday’s Dayton Daily News revealed that on April 6, Dann e-mailed Communications Director Leo Jennings III about an editorial
that ran in their hometown newspaper, The (Youngstown) Vindicator. “Bentley said there are six nasty
posts after the Vindy editorial. All about you,” the e-mail stated. “Jesus had it better on good friday.”
GOP Deputy Chairman Kevin De-Wine said, “His remark comparing a bad press day to the crucifixion of Christ is outrageous and inappropriate from anyone, much less an elected official …If comedians and talk show hosts can be fired and publicly scorned for a single racist remark, Marc Dann should be held no less accountable.”
Chris Long, president of the Ohio Christian Alliance, also asked Dann to apologize, calling the remark appalling, bigoted and insensitive.
I suppose Dann is reinforcing the fact that it’s ok to mock and make fun of Christians…. If he, for example, would have made such a joke about Mohammad, he would have already had threats to have his head chopped off. Since Christians don’t react in such a violent matter, liberal atheists like Dann feel more comfortable mocking Christianity.
Dann is Jewish
Practicing? I doubt it. But I don’t doubt his ethnicity… but his ease of mocking those of the Juedo-Christian tradition makes me think he isn’t religious. Maybe he prays to the almighty Eliot Spitzer for the strength to file junk lawsuits and to give licenses to illegals?
While I agree that the forum in which Mr. Dann chose to speak was completely inappropriate…please don’t fool yourself with your ludicrous comment that Christians don’t react in a violent manner. Unless you clarify what your definition of violent is…burning people at the stake? Bombing abortion clinics? Very level headed…
Matt your right, Dann’s ease of mocking Chrstianity is very disturbing! I believe it makes him unfit to serve out the rest of his term. When he so casually makes offensive remarks towards Christianity, how can we as voters be sure he will act in an unbiased way should an issue dealing with religion come before him.
As we can already see from Dann & Rev. Ted’s response to this - they do not care about, or are to busy to deal with, religious tolerance when it comes to Christianity.
Guys like RenZ make me even more grateful to live in America.
In any other country, RenZ would likely be the first to fall down and worship allah at gun-point and submit the women of his family to burkhas.
Lucky for us, we only have to witness him as a coward online.
Keep a sharp eye for those 17th century Puritans RenZ! They’re coming to get ya!
RenZ is crazy… The Salem Witch Trials killed less than 25 people. I wonder how many people have been murdered in Columbus, Ohio just this week? And if Renz wants to go back to the Crusades, that was a clumsy and defensive reaction against the Muslim assault on Christendom, also had a low death count.
Abortionists are evil but must still be protected by laws. In America, people who bomb abortion clinics are, appropriately, sent to prison. But what do you think the punishment is in certain middle eastern countries when a Muslim kills a Christian convert?
“I would rather live on my knees than die on my feet.” - likely quote of liberal hippy pansies
Does not really pertain to the current discussion, just thought it makes me laugh.
Who said the original quote of “Rather die on my feet than live on my knees?” The first time I read it, it was seriously said by Magneto in an X-Men comic book.
I don’t know. It is always lumped in with such classics as “better dead than red” that you see on truck stop t-shirts and mesh hats. But I must say my alltime favorite truck stop mesh hat is “American By Birth, Southern By the Grace of God”. Brought us many laughs on road trips.
Oops, sorry to take us way off track again.
Thanks RenZ. You are dead on. His comments may not have been appropriate, but let no one kid themselves that Christians do not react in a violent manner. History is drenched in the blood of people killed in the name of “Christ”. Anyone educated beyond 3rd grade can se that. Rather than speculate on how non-christians would have reacted to a comparison to their martyrs, I choose to speculate on how these “Christians” would have reacted had the comment been about the persecution of anyone other than Christ . Would their panties be in such a bunch then? I am guessing that would be a big fat no. I may not think his comment was tasteful, but relax. No one is taking your Christ’s status away from you. He is still popular and you can keep up your beliefs for as long as you’d like. Sticks and stones folks. If you believe in your faith, why on earth does it matter what anyone says? Isn’t there something about “turning the other cheek” in that book you live your lives by?
Thanks JC. I doubt its worth my time here - people love to pick and choose parts of the fable that allow them to create a self imposed moral pedestal.
Oh and as for the “only 25 people” killed at the witch trials…it’s that “only” that proves my point…At what headcount does the loss of life actually matter? At what threshold can we actually say that Christians have acted violently? I would assume that the husbands, children and loved ones of the “only” 25 would have thought it was violent but apparently we have already ascertained that that number is inconsequential.
I doubt that Christ would have exhibited such arrogance at the loss of even one life.
We won’t change each others minds. Have a nice day.
I don’t feel that the comment was intended to mock Christianity. Take the comment for what it is; another reminder that our AG has no class or sensitivity. Way to go, Marc Dann!
Es mejor morir a pie que vivir arrodillado (Translation: It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.)
Stated by Emiliano Zapata…
So then with the line of thinking of some here - I could say…
With the price of naturaul gas these days - Hitler would not be a happy camper.
I must ask, if our panties are in a bunch over nothing, why do jews get all upset and get their beanies spinning when the there is no menorah during Christmas displays?
The liberal logheads pushing their korrectnik views get all crazy when the redneck Imus call some girls Nappy Headed Ho’s. He offended the women on the basketball team. They screamed, bawled, whined and whimpered how offensive these remarks were. You korrectniks remember that right?
Well how’s this… I would bet that many, if not all, of the so called Nappy Headed Ho’s were also Christians. So even though the remarks made by Dipshit Dann offended millions more people than Imus’s, that’s OK?
And then we have the wonderful mockery by Rev. Strickland. The man must have had ” Send $7 and a You can be a Reverend” match book! To busy screwing up Ohio for him to remark about his buddy Dann’s murmuring.
Murmuring and mockery… Huh?!? Coming from these guys, you would think one ‘would’ know better and one ’should’ know better, respectively. Dann may not have to dig a hole, one mihgt just open up!
Can somebody please send these moron’s some lead contaminated chinese toys to play with?
Hyperbolic reference to a Biblical happening: deep offense to Christians.
Assaulting a Methodist minister’s credentials because he doesn’t share your sputtering, incoherent rage: A-OK.
We all know that the crowd here deeply and personally hates the current Dems in charge, especially young Matthew, but seriously, there’s not a one of you here who’s actually offended at a thing in Dann’s e-mail other than the fact that it involves Jesus and negativity in some vague combination.
Soldier on, brave Zapatistas. Soldier on.
Wow “King”. Let me guess, your white hood is at the cleaners so you cant go out cross burning tonight which leave you no where else to spill your hatred but in a blog? Good to see even racist morons can use the computer. Your Christ and most of the free thinking world would NOT be proud.
Thank you for telling me how i feel Jumping Jack.
Assaulting a minister’s credentials? I thought I was being nice! While I am not a Holy Roller, I do believe there is something in the Bible that refers to mockery… and I do believe it is well documented about what happened to the Jews and their murmuring
Anyway, back to the point. Marc is certainly as free to express his opinions in this country as is everyone else. The ability to comment on religion, politics, gardening or whatever without repurcussion is what the First Amendment is all about. However, the difference here is that he is using his position as a public servant on the public dime to act in this way (and we’ve seen him do worse than this). Its unfortunate that due to the current popular culture and media in this state and country he gets way more leeway to act stupidly in public than others do, and he is not held to account for his public actions as other politicians have been in the past. The crowning insult is that he “promised” to clean up all that was wrong with politics and politicians for their alledged use of public offices for individual purposes. What a crock!
MM you wrote…..
The ability to comment on religion, politics, gardening or whatever without repurcussion is what the First Amendment is all about.
I agree with the statement fully . But without repercussions? Well, one needs to be responsible as there are always consequences for our words and/or actions.
This is a great example of “Selective Free Speech” and double standard the dems and PC lib’s are trying to force on our country. How many times do we here about someone losing their job or getting demoted for making statements that can be considered offensive to another race, religion or nationality?
One can also take note on a good example of the liberal MSM and how they try to protect the democrats - PD does story on Dann hiring Tubbs-Jones son…. in this story they directly refer to the article Matt wrote about printed in the Vindicator. A couple paragraphs down is Dipshit Dann’s Good Friday remarks. Only today, after SOB members contacted the Ohio GOP and statements started being released and more media outlets are started to report on this did the PD pick it up.
Another item that could be used to point out the hypocrisy of many of the liberal cry baby bloggers is how they demanding apologies from the fishwrap Rag Dealer over the Wide Open saga. Sure bellow for an apology because liberal loghead gets fired for being a political hack, but allow and condone Dann’s offensive remarks about Christianity.
As for GHR - Why am I racist? What is wrong with my Hitler statement? Is it not equally offensive as Dann’s? If Dann’s remarks are acceptable - why would these be acceptable speech?
I would love for ONE - just ONE person to answer any of the following questions -
Why is a statement like Dann’s acceptable?
Did Dann’s remarks not offend more people than Imus with his “Nappy Headed Ho” remarks?
Was Dann’s remarks any less offensive than the Gena 6 incident?
If people of the Jewish faith are offended when a Menorah is not displayed, why would Christians be accused of over reacting when their religion is mocked?
Here’s a big difference between the Salem puritans and Marc Dann…
The Puritans weren’t Attorneys General in one of the largest states in the country using their public e-mail addresses.
Oh…in the 21st century no less.
King:
Ok . . . . “without repurcussion” is too broad. I did not mean to say that we should abdicate responsiblity for our statements that we have the right to freely make. Lest we forget what the First Amendment actually says, I’ve put it here: “Congress shall make no law …. abridging the freedom of speech.”
