Good heavens, are we tired of looking at Solon residents driving around with Kerry stickers. Yesterday’s gone. Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow – it will soon be here.
So, take your old Kerry sticker off, because it’s time to replace it with something new. “Solon is for Strickland” bumper stickers are available through the Solon Democratic Club.
Debating Abortion

Personal anecdotes, Scripture and more than a dash of politics took center stage Tuesday as lawmakers heard wide-ranging testimony on a bill seeking to ban most abortions in Ohio.
Framed against the backdrop of House Bill 228, which seeks to challenge the landmark Roe v. Wade case and ban most abortions in Ohio, often emotional testimony filled a Statehouse hearing room overflowing with ardent supporters and opponents of abortion rights.
More on the Poll
Submitted by rightangle on June 14, 2006 - 7:40am. generalDoes anyone know the breakdown between R's and D's in the poll? That would be helpful in gaging its effectiveness. Although convention wisdom says that Ted Strickland is ahead, the poll showing Sherrod Brown beating Mike DeWine is more troubling. The last poll we saw had Brown down 10-12 points, so this poll represents a 19-21 point shift! That is a huge shift. So, we'll wait and see until the next poll comes out and see what that says.
I don't doubt that Ted Strickland is ahead, but I'm dubious about the assertion that Sherrod Brown is up by 9.
Ken Blackwell is 100% Pro-Life
Submitted by jamesrhodes on June 14, 2006 - 8:53am. generalI was somewhat worried about the latest comments from BSB and the Ohio Democratic Party involving Ken Blackwell's views on abortion.
I believe that an unborn child is still a life, no matter what horrific crime (such as rape or incest) the child was conceived during. Such crimes are serious, and the punishments for such crimes should require at least life sentences in prison, but I simply can not support making the situation even worse by killing an innocent child.
And just like me, Ken Blackwell is 100% pro-life.
The confusion from the libs comes from this rather confusing comment from the Blackwell campaign in the Enquirer when asked if Ken Blackwell would sign HB 228 into law, which is a complete abortion ban. Here is the quote from Blackwell, when asked if he would sign the ban or not:
"Yes, if amended. The legislation removes current pro-life protections in the law because it enacts a total ban. I would support an amended version with pro-life protections reinstated if the legislation is later challenged and overturned in court."
Confused, I sent Matt Naugle (Ken's blogger) an email, and early this morning he referred me to this article from LifeNews.com:
Denise Mackura, a longtime pro-life attorney who is the group's director, points out that the measure has language which would take current pro-life laws limiting abortions off the books. Those provisions, such as parental involvement statues or laws requiring women to get information about abortion's risks and alternatives, would not be able to be enforced during a court challenge.
Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell, who is pro-life, says he supports an abortion ban but he agrees with Ohio Right to Life's concerns and wouldn't sign the bill unless it was changed to correct that problem.
Ah ha! So when Blackwell, in the Enquirer, is saying that since HB 228 removes laws such as parental notification or requiring women to get information about abortion risks and alternatives, if the courts struck down the ban, then those provisions would no longer exist!
So Ken Blackwell, by being thoughtful on the legal issues of a pro-life ban, opened himself up to criticism from kook bloggers, Democrats, and other supporters of the abortion holocaust.
I've been told that HB 228 is going nowhere fast. But under Governor Blackwell, it will be easier to pass such laws that protect innocent unborn children.
Ken Blackwell's Ideas Praised by the Blade?

Mr. Blackwell says he also would enlist markets to fight poverty, develop energy alternatives, boost home ownership, and transition Ohio's economy away from manufacturing.
"He's a different breed of Republican, that's for sure - someone who clearly believes that you grow best by maximizing economic freedom and personal liberty," said David Hansen, president of the Buckeye Institute, which advocates open-market policies. Paul Beck, a political science professor at Ohio State University, said that style departs from Ohio's Republican governors and gubernatorial candidates of past decades. "They have been less ideological and more, the best word probably is, pragmatic," Mr. Beck said.
The GOP is Coming to Town

The Republican National Committee announced today that it will visit Cleveland in August to size up the city's hotels, arena and convention facilities and leadership's support for hosting the 2008 Republican convention.
Cleveland was one of four cities to bid for the convention. Because so few cities showed interest in hosting the event, which requires thousands of hotel rooms and millions of dollars of local money, the committee decided to visit all four. The committee will pick a site early next year.
Cross your fingers.
