Robert Frost and Other Anti-Gun Liberals in the Cuyahoga County GOP
I have a strong suspicion that Lee Fisher, former Chairman of Handgun Control, Inc., would fully endorse the position that the morons at the Cuyahoga County GOP are about to take.
The truth is, the “home rule” provision of the Ohio Constitution was written into Ohio’s constitution during a very different place and time in history- and the Ohio legislature simply can not start turning over more decisions over to city governments if our state wants to be able to quickly adapt to a global market place and to attract more, high net-worth Americans to live here. The liberals, along with their liberal friends in the MSM, like to beat Republicans over the head with cries about “home rule,” even though they have no interest in local or state control over plenty of other issues… especially abortion.
By opposing a blanket, state-wide policy that simply allows for the basic second Amendment freedoms that are already provided for in the Ohio constitution and the US constitution , the Cuyahoga County GOP is proudly displaying their anti-gun, anti-freedom agenda for everyone to see.
If you are a conservative living in Cuyahoga County, instead of donating to the wayward Cuyahoga County GOP, your dollars would go to better use by sending a donation to the Ohioans for Concealed Carry, Buckeye Firearms Association, or the new Northeast Ohio Values Voters Program. By donating to one of those three groups, not only will you be supporting an organization that represents your values, but you would also be sending a clear message to the Cuyahoga County GOP that you disapprove of them turning their backs to core Republican principles.

It’s sad how many local Republican party organizations have completely abandoned the principles of our party. When we were collecting signatures to stop a huge Democrat Sales Tax hike, the Hamilton County Republican Party did absolutely nothing to assist us. Fortunately we got double the number of signatures anyways. Now the Cuyahoga County Party, experts in losing elections, want to strip away the gun rights for Ohio residents.
I’m still fairly young, but even I remember when the Republican Party stood for lower taxes and the 2nd Amendment. Now we’re the party of Bob Taft, Jean Schmidt, and useless county organizations.

As a member of the County GOP and an NRA activist I was absolutely shocked to see this proposal by the County Party. I can’t imagine this will pass as most of the rank and file of the Party are at odds with the leadership and won’t go along. Still, the jerks who put this forward are simply incapable of seeing the forest for the trees. Pick a fight with one of your most important constituencies, your grassroots legions, that is absolutely brilliant!

Matthew once again you miss a slow hanging curveball and strike out. In your eagerness to hand power to State Government you have attack local government by Home Rule.
Home Rule is part of the constitution. It is there to stop State Political Hacks from imposing tyrannical rule on local communities.
The attempt to take individual Gun Rights from citizens is wrong regardless of the level of government from which it originates.
Local officials have no more right to take my arms that state officials. Gun grabbing power hungry politicians can be found at all levels of government. However, it is much easier to remove local tyrants than those elected on a state level. (Ted comes to mind) Good Government will always be less government served from the lowest possible level.
Cleveland GOP Politicians wanting to take my guns is absolutely wrong. Your solution would grant those Cleveland Idiots the power to make decisions in my Southern Ohio Town. Stupid is and stupid does!

Old Cuss you are missing the point. Yes Home Rule on its face sounds good and sounds like a less government standard. In theory the state can’t force laws down the throats of the locals with their overbearing laws. However this is not how it works in reality.
Local governments have used Home Rule to stifle dissent, enact laws contrary to state and federal statutes and state and federal constitutions. In reality local governments have taken away our constitutional rights under the guise of Home Rule. If Home Rule were allowed to supersede state and federal law, we would still have segregation.
In using and staunchly defending Home Rule Mayors Akers(R) and Jackson(D) want to be able to crush individual rights because they know best what’s good for us little children. Plus without it they have a much harder time enacting laws to grab money and tax you without the consent of the governed.
Before the state law changed and preempted local gun laws, I was a criminal in my city as I owned firearms. Now I am not. Was I ever a threat to the community? Absolutely not. However in Mayor Akers and Jacksons minds I am a menace and pestilence that needs to be dealt with. Meanwhile the real criminals and thugs continue on unabated.

Some of us are working hard to defeat this shameless platform.
Two members of the platform committee, Akers & Sutherland, also suppport the proposed forced sales tax increase by the democrat county commissioners.
As a whole, that platform just stinks!

The Buckeye Firearms Association is an Ohio pro-gun/self-defense PAC. Check out our website at: http://www.buckeyefirearms.org
We sent an email to every member on the Cuyahoga County Central Committee to inform them of the countty party’s anti-gun views and ask them to help us oppose them. You can read our article from July 20th about this issue here:
