Plusquellic is the kind of leader we need in politics?

Many are saying Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic is what Cleveland needs. His hard nosed, and sometimes hard headed, leadership of Cleveland's neighboring metropolitan area has helped lead the city of Akron to what some are calling a ””rebirth'. ”“I get passionate and I get pissed off”?, said Mayor Plusquellic about his personality and leadership style. Clerk of Akron City Council, John Valle, said: ”“He wants to go down as the best mayor the city has ever had”?. Well, he certainly seems on his way, check out this article to learn more about the Mayor and what is going on ”“down south”? (of Cleveland).

Special thanks to Cool Cleveland for pointing this article out to us.

More Potential Trouble for GOP Statewide Candidates

Brokers who invest money for the Ohio Bureau of Compensations have given $200,000 to state wide GOP candidates. Read more HERE. The Bureau is the same one which has become embroiled in the “coingate” controversy.

Petro Won’t Meet with Tribe

“A spokesperson for Jim Petro said the Ohio Attorney General will not meet with the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma to negotiate an agreement concerning the tribe’€š”’s land claims in the state.
That could very well mean legal action.”

Looks like a play for the conservativeChristiann voters who make up a majority of primary voters in Ohio. Let’s see what happens next.

Senate Proposes State Takeover of Failing Schools

Districts in academic emergency for four consecutive years would be subjected to state-run committees in charge of the districts’ basic operations until they improve, under a provision in the Senate version of the upcoming state budget.

Of course, the school boards are not happy about this legislation.

No One Seems to Like Blackwell’s Plan

At least no elected officials seem to care for it.
Remember our Mayoral poll will end tomorrow so cast your final votes!

Big Crowd Expected on the 4th

Cuyahoga County Republican officials are expecting over 500 people at their “Meet the Governor Candidates” event June 4th at the Nautica complex. Privately these same officials are hoping for a crowd closer to 1,000. Don’t be surprised if certain campaigns get to the site early and paper it with their candidates signs and placards. It should be a fun and exciting day. Also, if you go to the event and want to pass along an anaylsis and/or review of it e-mail it to us at rightangleblog at yahoo.com.

A Major Petro Gaffe!

For a candidate who prides himself as the best manager of the candidates running for Governor, Jim Petro had a major goof this week. Petro and his campaign had implied that they had the backing of two county chairs which, it turns out, have not endorsed Petro for Governor. The two individuals which “supposedly” endorsed Petro were “Dave Johnson ”” the former Columbiana Republican chairman” and “Trumbull Republican Chairman Craig Bonar.” Read more HERE.

Draganic Gets Some Press

Pete Draganic the long shot candidate for Governor (although he won our internet poll) had a nice write up about his candidacy in the Review newspaper. Some highlights of the article
***”We need somebody outside of politics as usual,” Draganic said.
***”I think sometimes when you’re part of a political process for so long, you develop an inability to rise above it because you’re such a part of it,” Draganic said.
***One way he suggested would be through reductions in spending. As an example, he said the state could establish a department for printing of school textbooks which could save money for education, theorizing that it would be cheaper to produce the books here than buying them somewhere else.

County Party Endorsements

From what we hear some counties will begin endorsing governor candidates in the next few weeks. We will be staying on top of these endorsements and keeping track of them. As of right now the only county party that has endorsed was Summit County who endorsed Betty Montgomery. If there is an endorsement by a county party please send us the results at [email protected]. Thanks!

The Petro Case for Governor

From a Lincoln Day speech:

*”I pride myself on being a very good manager,”
*” he has saved millions of dollars by consolidating office space while also expanding the DNA laboratory and launching a new computer-based system that will improve communication among law enforcement agencies. Petro also took credit for improving the state’s online sex-offender database.”
*”Petro said he supports about 80 percent of the tax reforms currently being considered by the state legislature but is concerned about the new tax on gross sales,”
*”I don’t think we can rely on casino gambling to rebuild our economy in Ohio.”

GOP To Require Ethics Training

Due to “coingate” it looks like the Ohio GOP is requiring all prospective candidate to undergo ethics training. “Chairman Robert Bennett expressed concern Thursday that investigations into a state investment in rare coins, along with previous fundraising probes involving former state officeholders, could help Democrats in elections next year.”

Our media which hates the Ohio GOP is going to love this article. My question is why isn’t current politicians required to go through this training?

Outside of Ohio

The economy is rocking! It’s just too bad it hasn’t caught up to us yet.

State’s Coins are Missing!

Oh my. Where did the $10-12 million in state coins go?

Looks like Noe will be prosecuted.

Taft’s press release actually shows emotion “Such criminal action is outrageous and will not be tolerated,” Gov. Bob Taft said in a news release. “We will pursue all legal avenues possible to recover these funds for injured workers and employers.”

This scandal just keeps getting worse.

Galleria to be Saved

I like these development projects, this one is behind the Galleria…

It's called the ”“Avenue District”? - more than 400 condos, townhouses, coffee shops and art galleries in the shadow of the Galleria.

They are targeting Young Professionals, 2 incomes no kids, and recently retired individuals. Best of luck for this project.

Right Angle Blog Will be There on June 4th

Just talked to my co-editor and she’ll be there on June 4th when all 4 candidates for Governor will be at Nautica in the Flats. We will file reports ASAP after the meeting.

Blackwell Draws Line in the Sand

Read this press release from Kenblackwell.com. Even though we don’t see much of Mr. Blackwell in person, his website is at least updated on a regular basis.

A part of the release

A win for Blackwell in an Ohio Republican primary is a win for the conservative movement. If Blackwell wins, it will be because conservatism carried the day as the Republican establishment and their money will be directed toward the more malleable Petro and Montgomery. As was mentioned prior to the 2004 elections, no Republican has won the presidency without winning Ohio, but also of note, Ohio has voted with the winner in the last ten presidential elections. This surely makes Ohio a must-win for any candidate. And as such, any candidate hoping to win Ohio will have to appeal to conservatives.

Poll on Governor’s Race

On the Vikingspirit blog, go and vote!

Who is the leader?

We complain on a regular basis that our current leader, Bob Taft, is not a leader at all. So that begs the question, whom of the current gubernatorial candidates is the leader? This is something we should really be thinking about. For the first time in awhile we have a field of candidates for Governor, most of which have a viable shot. We need to think about who will be the best leader in this field. Who has the best chance of winning? Who is the best leader for the government? Who is the best leader from an energizing people standpoint? Additionally important, who is the best leader of our cause? I pose these questions into the blogging world, as these are all things I think we need to think about.
