Ohio GOP Chairman Bob Bennett Gives His 2 Cents

From the ORP’s blog:

Ohio Republican Party Chairman Bob Bennett issued the following statement tonight regarding the 2007 municipal elections:

“Republicans took some key races tonight, holding off well-funded Democratic opposition and claiming several targeted mayoral seats. We picked off targeted mayoral races in Newark and Tiffin, defended key incumbencies in Findlay, Coshocton and Dover, while Democrats ceded the Marysville and Kirtland mayor’s races by failing to field candidates in seats they previously held. Republicans also picked up a seat on the Toledo City Council in a heavily Democratic ward and swept the Findlay City Council.

Republican judicial candidates ran strong statewide, especially in Columbus where Gov. Ted Strickland’s first judicial appointee was knocked off the bench.

Democrats won in Democratic cities. We were fortunate to hold Canton for four years, but Democrats out-number Republicans there by a two to one margin. Republicans continue to run strong in suburban, exurban and rural areas where our voters have moved out of the inner cities to avoid the festering school and safety problems being largely ignored by Democratic mayors.

Democrats now hold all of Ohio’s major urban cities, and they have the obligation and opportunity to address the the growing concerns over crime, education and decaying infrastructure. Republicans in the legislature should work with them to address these issues.”

Is this guy an idiot or what? Why should republicans work with the democrats; how about showing some leadership and develop some uniquely “republican” solutions. We need someone who can tap into the grassroots and also offer to the urban areas new ideas that are centered on deregulation, lower taxes, and less government. Bennett simply needs to go.

When is Franklin County going to get some LEADERSHIP for the Republican Party - as little as ten or so years ago, things were going well in Columbus and Franklin County - in just a decade, the entire city council and the mayors office as well as the county commissioners have all gone to the DOGS and it seems that nobody in leadership of the Franklin County GOP cares or has any clue how to fix this problem.

Well, maybe because you have scortched earth hacks like Matt Naugle who have driven many people to not stand up because they don’t want to be associated with someone so incendiary who is nothing more than a flamethrower who is more interested in his own invective than in accomplishing anything for the party or the conservative movement.

I find it funny that Matt Naugle rages against RINOs like voinovich and others but just kowtows and curtsies to people like Bennett, at least in public. In private, he says things that would make sailors squirm about them and likes to trash them. He is a hypocrite and symptomatic of what is wrong with the party more than what is right. He is a hindrance to conservatives, not an advancer.

Bennett translated: I’m a fool and have no idea what’s happening around this state.
