Banning Bullying in Schools. Oh Hum
From Catherine Candisky in The Dispatch:
The State Board of Education adopted a model anti-bullying policy yesterday after removing reference to “taunts based on ethnicity, gender, religion (and) sexual orientation.”
Those arguing to keep the language said the board’s hourlong debate boiled down to a question of whether gay students should be explicitly protected from taunts and harassment.
Countering those who maintained they opposed the suggested language merely because it was repetitive and unnecessary, Robin C. Hovis, a board member from Millersburg, said, “Let’s say what this is. The issue is inclusion of homosexuality.”
First of all, homosexuality should never be mentioned in state law or any sort of policy, as it simply amounts to government endorsement and promotion of a lifestyle choice. There are plenty of lifestyle choices which aren’t protected or mentioned in law- and homosexuality shouldn’t be any different.
But on the issue of bullying, what ever happened to solving it the old fashioned way: with violence! Knocking a bully down and making sure he can’t get back up anytime soon can do wonders for a child’s self esteem, and is the fastest way solve to the problem of bullying.
We need to stop turning entire generations into a bunch of wusses.
Plus, if a school is full of bullies and is unsafe, why can’t a child use a voucher to go to a safer school? Does this rule also ban school unions from bullying students and parents?
