Cuyahoga County Willing To Accept $30+ Million Loss?
From today’s PD
The downtown site Cuyahoga County bought two years ago for a new administration building is officially up for sale.
Bidding for the old Ameritrust complex at East Ninth Street and Euclid Avenue will open at $35 million, equal to the amount spent on the project so far, officials said Monday.
Previous estimates of the county’s financial commitment to the project exceeded $35 million because appropriations were included with actual expenditures, officials said.
Commissioner Tim Hagan was adamant the county will not lose money if the property is sold to a private developer.
Well last week the PD reported
The project that was supposed to allow the county to consolidate its work force and save money has become a tax-dollar-gobbling black hole. The county has spent or appropriated $72 million, according to figures it gave to Plain Dealer reporter Joe Guillen. And a groundbreaking isn’t even penciled in.
So last week they gave the PD a $72 million number, but now they say it’s only $35 million. Who do you believe?

A large chunk of the difference between the two numbers probably includes appropriations for abatement and deconstruction, which, as of this morning when I drove past the place, haven’t occured. They can’t lose what they haven’t spent.

Daniel & Anon - you are idiots! You can’t be serious in what you say, can you? I’ll tell you what - I do know Jimmy and he stepped in a pile over this one.
The Ameritrust Building purchase should have NEVER even been made. When everything comes to light on this building, the purchase and the asbestos abatement you will most likely see more indictments handed out.
I have been waiting and waiting for what I saw on Channel 8 last night. The FBI & Justice Dept. will be looking into the awarding of the asbestos removal contract.
When this is done, you can be sure it will all tie back into the corruption at the airport, corruption in Cleveland Water Dept, the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District and possibly Mayor Jackson’s forgotten Triangle Development.
Peter “I used to work at Lawson’s” Jones is already starting to throw Taxin Tim and Jimmy under the bus on the contract.
On selling the building Lawson Jones is now saying, “Well, we better not mess the Med Mart like this.” Nice Huh?
The dems, with the help of a long time non existent RPCC, have run this area into the ground. The residents need to remove their heads from their ass and force thes guys to be accountable.
If you guys live in Cuyahoga County and have any knowledge at all about what is going on here, you would know how foolish your remarks are.
