It’s Official: Stivers is In in OH-15

From Old Man Joe Hallett:

The Republicans finally got their man.

State Sen. Steve Stivers of Upper Arlington today will announce his candidacy for the 15th Congressional District seat, likely setting up a showdown with Democrat Mary Jo Kilroy in what could be the nation’s premier congressional race in 2008.

“I’ve decided to run for Congress because I think we really need change in Washington,” Stivers told The Dispatch yesterday. “There is way too much bickering and not enough working together to get things done.”

Stivers is scheduled to hold a news conference today at 2:30 p.m. at Ohio Republican Party headquarters.

That is GREAT NEWS for our district!!!! You were the first to break what was all the buzz around town last night. So kudos on that! I just hope Sen. Stivers does not associate himself with those “habitual losers” at American Strategies as Matt and Right Angle Blog termed them before based on their track record and tactics and similar to his comments on Rep. Bob Latta’s relationship with Rex Elsass and the Strategy Group for Media. We had to put up with Householder, Buerck, and Sisk, and their reputation for hatchet job campaigns for way, way, too long followed by Tom Noe, Bob Ney, etc., and their taint. We ABSOLUTELY can’t have the likes of Brett Sciotto or Rex Elsass – their antics are well-documented here and elsewhere - possibly dragging down a great candidate and proven senator like Steve Stivers in what still might be a close race. He would be better off having his fiancée Karen Tabor – who has done a very good job for the caucus and Speaker Husted - run his campaign (and do 1000% better at it than Fred Thompson’s wife who has been rumored to run his presidential campaign behind the scenes) than to have either one of these two and their associates – or their potentially problematic associations – manage any part of his campaign.

Yes… He needs to run an excellent campaign. He hardly has a perfectly conservative record in the Ohio legislature, but Mary Jo alone is enough to make me a 100% Stivers supporter. Mary is absolutely repulsive.

    Nice work Natt Maugle!

You have an Iraq War Vet/State Senator vs. SEIU/MoveOn/commie/anarchist Kilroy. C’mon Stivers!!!

Nothing would make me happier that to see that smug, “we got it in the bag” grin wiped off the face of Kilroy/SEIU/MoveOn/ProgressOhio and beat the pinko commie and end her tax-hiking/extremist career.

Just what we needed—a lobbyist for the bank and credit card industry going to D.C.

[[Sigh]]… So this is the best Columbus can come up with? Of course, Marxist Feminazi Kilroy is utterly detestable and there’s no way I’d want her in office.

But…did we really have to go with another socially-liberal, fiscally-moderate, lesser-of-two-evils RINO as our great hope for salvation in the 15th?!

    TonyRo76,

Do you want to win, or lose? It is that simple. I am not sure who you want in this race, but a hard conservative will lose this district everytime.

I am not trying to compare Sen. Stivers to President Eisenhower, but the similarities are there. Eisenhower was a moderate Republican, but a war hero.

Stivers is a moderate, not necessarily a war hero, but a leader of men in an unpopular war.

I for one is thankful that he is on our side, the GOP side. It blows my mind away that arch conservatives like you can’t see through your jaded eyes, that you can’t control everything. You have to give a little to get a lot. If you don’t want Stivers as your congressman, then vote Kilroy. Be careful for what you ask for.
